Obi E. Chukwu

Mr. Obi E. ChukwuMr. Chukwu received his Juris Doctor from the University of Saint Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis (2004). A Dean's List graduate of the University of North Texas with a degree in Economics, Mr. Chukwu served with the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services and the Fourth Judicial District Court as Law Clerk to the Honorable LaJune Lange working on civil, criminal and juvenile dockets.

He has a diversity of corporate legal experiences that range from his role as a Risk Management and Compliance Specialist for Wolters Kluwer Financial Services and program director at the International Leadership Institute (ILI). With ILI, Mr. Chukwu served several communities of the world through international legal projects that spanned from human rights education to judicial institutional reform.

Mr. Chukwu’s immigration law experience includes representing businesses and individuals in several immigration law matters. He has successful experience processing immigration petitions, including H-1b, Permanent Residency applications, change/extension of nonimmigrant status, several family-based petitions, U visas for victims of violence, etc.  Mr. Chukwu has also successfully represented several clients in immigration removal proceedings and filed briefs with the Board of Immigration Appeals and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has successful business litigation experience before the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Further, Mr. Chukwu has extensive experience in family law matters and will bring those skills to help our clients with family law issues, including divorce/dissolutions, child custody and parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance (alimony), paternity, ante-nuptial/post-nuptial agreements, asset distribution, post-divorce modifications, domestic abuse issues, etc.

Mr. Chukwu is a global citizen who in addition to English speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and Igbo.  He is a member of the local bar associations and is a volunteer attorney with The Advocates for Human Rights.  He is a current board member and has served on the board of the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota for over 5 years.
